The series follows the residents of an apartment building on Copenhagen's Christianshavn, as they go about their daily lives and challenges. There is Olsen, a mover with an old fashion view of the world, Clausen who runs the local pet shop, Egon the career focused assistant, their wives who work hard to keep their spouses lives together, the young couple Tue and Rikke who recently moved in, the hard working caretaker Meyer, who never puts in to much effort, and of course Emma, the innkeeper of Rottehullet, where all the important decisions are made while running up the bar tab. The series was produced by Nordisk Film for Danmarks Radio TV station between the years 1970-77. The series' first director was Ebbe Langberg, then Erik Balling and Tom Hedegaard respectively. The series was conceived by an author team of well-known Danish authors such Leif Panduro, Benny Andersen, and Lise Nørgaard.

The peace in the attic apartment is disrupted when Tue and Rikke get into a fight. Peace is restored thanks to the calm and composed owner of Rottehullet, Emma.

The house is without water much to the dismay of the tenant. While the men find a new water supply at Rottehullet, the city has a plan to solve the water crisis.

The customs department pay a visit to Rottehullet, forcing the owner Emma, to increase the price of beer and demand cash payment. This greatly upsets her regulars, who decide that it would be cheaper, if they brew their own beer and spirits.

Larsen, thanks to the help of Mr. Olsen and Mrs. Olsen, Clausen, and Tue, narrowly avoids being arrested after a failed attempt of breaking into a safe at an insurance company. To pay them back for their help, he promises to turn over a new leaf, but that may be easier said than done.

Mr. Olsen, Larsen, and Emma have received their annual tax statements and are feeling resentment towards the government. Olsen comes up with a plan on how to never pay taxes again, but that is easier said than done, while Larsen reconsiders his honest and law abiding life.

Meyer is acting like a cock doing mating season. This leads to a lengthy discussion about birdsong between the tenants of the house. Clausen suggest that they go on a bird watching trip. Olsen takes the role as chairman of planning, Meyer signs up to be the samaritan, and Egon will provide the liquid refreshments.

Gambling debt is a matter of honour, and unfortunately for Mrs. Hammerstedt, her deceased spouse managed to accrue a lot of it. The house rallies behind her and hatch a plan for how she can get the money back.
