Season 1
In the year 2046, it's a new Earth - with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan and his charge, Irisa.
Season 2
As the story of Defiance resumes, the lives of the townspeople are in drastic turmoil. The Earth Republic has assumed control of the town, with far-reaching consequences including a new mayor. Nolan traverses the badlands to find a lost Irisa, Amanda has an unexpected new role in the town as she searches for Kenya and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire in the midst of dramatic changes.
Season 3
Following the events of the season two cliffhanger finale, season three of Defiance opens on the eve of an impending military siege upon the town, which has fallen on hard times following the collapse of its lucrative mines.

This show ended far too soon. It had so much potential, the show masters were just laying the groundwork for what could have been a great science fiction show...and they cancelled it.
Syfy ALWAYS cancels their best shows. And, I'm guessing they do it so they can make another Sharknado or two.
You have enough diversity of aliens to cause some really wonderfully chaotic alliances and crazy Shakespearean stories. There was so much that they could have done with the series if they kept it around.
And on top of that, you had a love for old music, for covers of older songs, and that added brilliantly to the atmosphere.
And then it had a cult following.
And that following was growing.
So, it was cancelled for another Sharknado movie.

Yet another great SciFi show that i found myself wanting to love. I had high hopes, but eventually just had to give up.
