Between the Lions is a PBS Kids puppet television series designed to promote reading. The show is a co-production between WGBH in Boston and Sirius Thinking, Ltd., in New York City, in association with Mississippi Public Broadcasting, in Mississippi. The show has won seven Daytime Emmy awards between 2001 and 2007. The target audience is children 4 to 7 years old. It has the same puppet style as Sesame Street and several season 2 episodes, notably in Dance in Smarty Pants, had a few characters from Sesame Street guest appearing. Between The Lions started its 10th and final season on September 20, 2010. The Show Ended in November, 22 2010 Along with Reading Rainbow

Season 1
Theo reads the cubs a book about the wild adventures of Pecos Bill, specifically about the time ol' Bill wrangled a tornado. When the tornado escapes from the book, however, and wreaks havoc inside the library, the lions realize there's only one person who can tame that tornado: Pecos Bill, himself!
Season 2
Bruno Kirby plays a Dad whose house is overrun by kids: ""There's hardly enough room to put on pants!"" he complains. Fed up with all this overcrowding, he decides to seek the advice of an old wise woman in town - who only adds to the problem!

Can Lionel, Leona, and Gus help a girl named Fay turn hay into gold in just one day?

Can Lionel and Leona make sense of a mysterious painting?

Theo and Leona don pig snouts for another reading of Pigs Apelnty, Pigs Galore first read in the episode ""Pigs Aplenty."" Midway into the show, Lionel dons three pig snouts as he reads to Leona The Three Little Pigs, heard previously in the episode ""Huff and Puff.""

Season 10
Lionel, Leona, and the Wolf each try their hand at writing a sequel to The Three Little Pigs, and Leona finds a way to work and play. Educational Goals: Highlights the joys of reading and introduces key literacy skills. Focuses on short u, the sound represented by the letter m, and synonyms for small (miniscule, little, petite, microscopic, tiny, teeny, diminutive, weeny).
