Three days before an election, party leader Birgitte Nyborg shakes up her campaign by denouncing her closest ally, sensitive information about the prime minister's shopping expenses lands in the wrong hands, and the rising star of the evening news is shaken by an unexpected death.

A year has passed since we last saw Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg. In the season opener, Birgitte is visiting soldiers stationed in Afghanistan when their encampment is attacked, and several soldiers are killed. Now she must choose: send the troops home or stage a counterattack?

Two and half years later, Birgitte is traveling the world out of politics when suddenly the changing Moderate Party makes her want to return. The problem is, Krause, whom she sent away to EU, is the leader of the party now, and does not want her back. Sojro however tells Birgitte to oust Krause as a leader. Birgitte hires Kathrine to help her, and they try to get the votes together so Birgitte could once again become the leader of the Moderate Party.
