Santa Barbara is an American television soap opera, first broadcast in the United States on NBC on July 30, 1984, and last aired on January 15, 1993. The show revolves around the eventful lives of the wealthy Capwell family of Santa Barbara, California. Other prominent families featured on the soap were the rival Lockridge family, and the more modest Andrade and Perkins families.
Santa Barbara aired in over 40 countries around the world and is best remembered for its witty dialogue and sometimes tongue-in-cheek situations that often seemed like an affectionate parody of the genre. The show won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards and 18 Soap Opera Digest Awards among various other awards.
Seasons
Season 1
This great soap opera begins with a flashback to a party in honor of Channing Capwell Jr. in Santa Barbara, California in 1979. Channing and his older brother, Mason, are entertaining the guests until the butler, Phillip, gives Channing a note. Channing asks the maid, Santana Andrade, if he'll see her tonight. He then follows instructions to go to the Capwell study. When Channing enters the study, it's clear that someone was waiting behind the desk. The person points a gun and pulls the trigger. Seconds later, Channing is lying dead on the floor. ""Santa Barbara"" then cuts five years ahead in time to the San Quentin prison on July 30, 1984.
Season 2
Cruz wrestles Eden to the floor in her office because she stole the slides he took at the museum, Lionel chases Dominic.
Season 3
Mason wakes up hungover, Brick ponders his new family tree, Sophia tells Lionel that Gina has taken Brandon, Augusta holds an estate sale and upsets Lionel, Brick tells his parents about the switched babies, Mary gets upset after seeing Mason's New Year's Eve tape, Mark finds Wendy (Janice) after seeing her magazine cover.
Season 4
New Year's Eve - CC has a cold, Julia goes to see Mason but he's with Tori at the hospital, party at Purgatory.
Season 5
CC finds Julia & Mason at the Capwell Hotel, Cruz back in the hospital, gets the microchip implanted in his head, Julia tells Mason where Tori is & he confronts her at rehab, Keith learns Gina has her sight back.
Season 6
Eden gives birth to Adriana in the cave, Diane goes to the hospital, Eden & Cruz return to Santa Barbara, the Capwells visit Eden & Cruz & Adriana in the hospital, CC & Sophia spend the night together.
Season 7
Julia lashes out at Augusta for knowing about Mason and Sasha. Mason hijacks Julia's plane and it has to do a crash landing. Cruz works it so that Nikki can live in the United States. Rafael asks Nikki to be his assistant.
Season 8
Keith asks Gina about her affair with Ethan Asher. Robert starts pushing himself on Kelly. Cruz and Eden find a way that Flame was able to get out of her cell. Keith tells Gina he bought a home for them. Flame cries on Keith's shoulder. Cruz and Eden tell Robert they believe Flame did the shooting. Cruz then calls Robert, Quinn.
Season 9
Lily walks in on Ted taking down the Christmas tree and offers her help. Gina, with baby Capwell, enters Lionel's office and sets off the alarm. Lionel, awakened by the alarm, grabs a golf club and heads inside to protect his property. He finds Gina cowering behind a screen. Lionel tells her that she needs to see a doctor because she is not acting rationally. Gina says that she cannot afford to see a shrink, so Lionel offers to pick up the bill.
Season 10
Kelly accuses Ken of poisoning Sophia. Rafe pleads his case to Lily. Gina, trying to save the situation, gives Lily advice on how to save the situation. Sophia is taken to the hospital. Mason and Julia also leave the ceremony to watch Gracie giving birth, but they find out she's only faking it. Lily decides to go through with the wedding. Ken is arrested.
